"From an early interest in design and engineering I developed a strong sense of importance in having a complete understanding of jewelry as a trade, as art, and as sentimental symbols of our lives. In August of 1992 I opened Artisan's out of my home as a custom design and repair business, doing a substantial amount of commissioned repair work for several regional jewelry retailers. In October 1994 Artisan's Jewelry Designs celebrated our official Grand Opening at 502 N. Ankeny Blvd. in Ankeny, IA.    Artisan's Jewelry Designs quickly became one of Central Iowa's leading independent jewelry design, repair, and retail businesses. During this time I served as President of the Iowa Jewelers Association and started a relationship with the local Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International.    In 2005, I opened a satellite store in Newton, IA. I saw a town with a lot of creative talent and artistic taste and felt that it would appreciate a jewelry store with a design-centered vision. Our Newton location caters to custom design and repair as well as featuring local artists and designers.    In 2009, I saw a tremendous opportunity to bring Artisan's talent and vision to a new audience by moving to Des Moines' Historic East Village. I closed my location in Ankeny and began renovation in our new space at 516 E. Grand Ave. In May 2009, we opened our doors to Des Moines with a new workshop and a more refined showroom and gallery space. The move to Des Moines also marks an opportunity for me to spend more time focused on my own design projects and collections. My hope is to re-establish an appreciation in the fine art of jewelry-making while meeting the most specific needs to fit the most important occasions.     The concept of Artisan's Jewelry Designs came from an observation of the jewelry trade as being predominantly dependent on industrial standards and trends. I sought to break this dependency by providing a full-service design studio and gallery where I could create the designs I felt represent my passion and understanding of the art, and to display works of metal art and jewelry that express a similar passion and vision.
